This update applies to the map and directions for the ATV Guide Colorado Central Mountains, which treats this as one large area. Our 4×4 books break down this area into many separate trails. For the most up-to-date information, see our new 4th Edition Guide to Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel-Drive Trails, set to be released April of 2019.
Otherwise, we know the northern part of the Pieplant route, F.S. 742.8F, is just wide enough for ATVs, not UTVs. The area on the mountainside east and above the Taylor Park Trading Post has many trails, some are closed, others renumbered. The Sanford-Timberline Trail, 725.1A, has gotten so difficult that no one is riding it anymore. There are also changes to Texas Creek Road 725. The west side of Cottonwood Pass Road 209 has been closed for two years for paving. It’s due to be completed sometime in the summer of 2019. Until then, the only paved road into the area is Taylor River Road 742 from Gunnison.
