We recommend you drive this canyon from top to bottom to enjoy the amazing views as you descend. Plus you’ll have fewer problems if you encounter unexpected obstacles. It’s a great way to return from Canyonlands National Park, Dead Horse Point State Park, or Gemini Bridges, trail #27.

I ran Long Canyon from top to bottom. I don’t think a 2WD vehicle can make trip. Pucker Pass is difficult and should probably rate as Moderate (blue). Sections of soft sand and decent-sized rocks made getting through to the tunnel more than an easy ride (stock Bronco Sport) with having to choose a good line.

Conditions continue to vary considerably from year-to-year on this road. This time conditions were worse than I’ve ever seen them. The sand through Pucker Pass was extremely soft and deep. Two-wheel-drive vehicles attempting to drive up the pass were getting stuck and digging big holes in the sand. It was a mess. Also, there was a rocky ledge just below the giant fallen rock described in the book at 3.4 miles. Still, I had no problems coming down in my stock 4-wheel-drive Wrangler Sport.

Ran the trail from south to north. Overall the trail is easy, however, waypoint 2 (the tunnel and Pucker Pass) are rather difficult. At the tunnel, the trail has been torn up terribly. In a stock Xterra, I had a difficult time making a decent line through all the rocks and ruts. At the narrows section, the trail has a lot of basketball-sized rocks in soft sandy soil making them roll all over and making you lose traction. Those two sections (in my opinion) should be rated as blue, the rest of the trail is green. After those two obstacles, the rest of the trail was easy.
Great easy trail ,Fun for the family
