Overview

Popular route passes through narrow canyon.

This is a popular drive that can get crowded on weekends. You pass through a fun, narrow, high-walled canyon to connect to a large network of outstanding OHV trails. We started the trail from the south side, but many drive the trail in the opposite direction via Cottonwood Canyon Road. We enjoy the high-ridge bypass route as much as the canyon. You can RV camp south of Waypoint 02 or along Cottonwood Canyon Road.

A few large boulders to maneuver between, but no rock crawling is required. Stock vehicles should take the bypass route to avoid a large, difficult ledge. Stay out if heavy rain is expected. Canyon is notorious for extreme flash flooding.

The waterfall just off box canyon rd has been dug out deeper in places than last year. Need a good spotter or pile some rocks in the holes.

Not much of an update, but we have done the Canyon and had a get time. Did have a little trouble getting out of the Canyon with the sharp left turn up the hill and being rookies but we made it. The 3rd edition was a must have. We also did Montana mountain trail again the book got us through without trouble except for the fog or clouds lol thanks again for your hard work

I live in Florence, so Box Canyon is my go-to trail. It's pretty easy, except for a crazy ledge. I haven't made it all the way through, as I left the guidebook at home, and my GPS app couldn't connect in the bottom. Poor preparation by me meant we had to turn around almost 80% of the way in, and backtrack out. Very fun, scenic trail. I'm going again tomorrow, and finishing it!

My wife and I ran this trail last week and and loved it. We got side tracked a couple of times because the signs have changed a bit since the book was published but it was fun getting off track, then back on a couple of times. Came up on the Waterfall obstacle and decided not to do it with no experienced spotters around. Nice scenery and not very crowded at all for a weekend. Definitely a moderate trail.
