Fun route with a variety of modest challenges. Skirts eastern border of Indian Peaks Wilderness and passes by historic Caribou Townsite. Great view from high point of trail includes Eldora Ski Area. Explore several marked side roads. Camp only in designated numbered sites. Unlicensed vehicles may find it more convenient to start at large parking area at Waypoint 03. There is a 1,000 fine for riding across meadows at townsite. Open June 15 to Nov. 30, weather permitting.

South end of trail is impassable at about 5.3 miles from Caribou townsite. Landslide, ATV’s SUV’s unable to continue, passable by motorcycle.

Started on the north side. Just after crossing Caribou Creek, muddy through the creek area but can get around and through. Just as head back uphill, very deep rutted mud pit. Would recommend a winch and really good tires.

Began coming from the north. Several fun mud pits, the (2) most dangerous ones were avoidable. Nice scenic view from the top overlooking Eldora ski resort. The last descent heading into the town of Eldora was very narrow with tight switchbacks. If a vehicle was attempting the trail from the opposite direction it would have made for a horrible day. Doable in a stock vehicle with high clearance. Fun trail and would do it again.
