You’ll pass through Split Mountain with its towering walls and interesting exposed rock layers, then wander back and forth in super-wide Fish Creek Wash before entering narrow Sandstone Canyon. Giant rocks block this canyon at 1.7 miles, but some hard-core vehicles are getting through. The last 0.7 miles can be driven or hiked. Hike to Wind Caves is worth the extra time. Anza-Borrego Park is restricted to street-legal vehicles only.

Approximately 2 miles before the end of the trail as described in the book, large house-sized boulder has blocked Sandstone Canyon. Can not pass in all but the most heavily modified vehicle, and even then, it is confirmed as not-allowed by an ABDSP ranger as you would have to drive two tires onto the canyon wall itself. Only choice to see the end of the canyon now is to hike in. Rockfall happened early December 2015.
Entered from north section “fish trail.” My first time, driving a stock Ram2500 4x4 with pop up camper. Amazing views...See More
