Jim Brightly says

My first trip to Monache Meadows was Labor Day weekend of 1964. It was not an easy trail in those days, and crossed Fish Creek at least a half dozen times in the first mile. My wife and I camped in Monache Meadows over our first seven wedding anniversaries (1965 ~ '71), and have visited it several times since. We were there the weekend the route was changed to the current route. It's one of the most beautiful places you'll ever find in a Jeep. Well worth the visit!
