This challenging hard-core route takes you to an old mining camp with two amazingly well-kept Adopt- A-Cabins, which are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Signs say full-size vehicles should not proceed above the camp, where there’s a small bridge for ATVs and motorcycles only. (Bridge may be rebuilt in the future.) Green-sticker vehicles can explore Thorndike Mine above the bridge, but must turn around at the boundary to Death Valley National Park.

Did this with a near-stock Rubicon without any problem. The bridge has been upgraded and presented zero issues. Even Chicken Rock wasn’t a problem for a 4 door Wrangler. A longer wheel based vehicle could have issues but a good driver could make it. Nothing harder than moderate up to the cabins.

BLM removed the bridge in 2018 and filled the gully with the rock. Now there are no vehicle limitations, and this trail can be combined with the Pleasant Canyon trail as a loop.
