Overview

Features great swimming hole below suspension bridge.

The main attraction of this route is a popular swimming hole below Colfax-Foresthill Suspension Bridge. Our round-about way of getting there follows a paved road through historic Iowa Hill, then continues on a narrow, winding dirt road through the forest. Take a picnic lunch and inner tube to enjoy the crystal-clear water of the American River inside Auburn State Recreation Area (fee area). Street-legal vehicles only. To go direct to swimming hole, use reverse directions.

Very nice says

I had a good time on this trail. I did it at night, in the fog and rain. There was down trees and fallen rocks. Lots of water falls. Plenty of mud and strang critters out and about. I gave it 4 stars for an easy trail because about 1/2 is paved. So very true how conditions can turn a fairly easy ride into a treacherous, hazardous ride. Stay safe. I used Gaia to follow trail.

Pretty drive , 50% paved and 50% dirt. Very easy trail, any stock SUV or any car with 6 - 8 inches of clearance would have no problem on this trail, 4 wheel drive not needed. Beautiful view from the suspension bridge, crystal clear water in the North Fork American river, great for swimming.
