Point Sublime is our favorite overlook on the north rim. The easiest way to enter is from Wpt. 01. Alternate entrance from Wpt. 08 is more challenging (and we think more fun). You can also add an easy side trip to Swamp Point. We suggest you pay the park entry fee and take time to go to the North Rim Visitor Center. This way you’ll get the complete park experience and also have an entry receipt if you get stopped by a park ranger on the trails. Overnight camping requires a special permit that can only be obtained by fax or in-person visit.

We stayed the night on the rim. We came in and out using both sides of the trail. It was in good condition although there was a lot of deadfall that had been cleared previously. I’d recommend taking a saw just in case there is something there. This is a long trail and not something that I’d enjoy backtracking because of a downed tree due to lack of gear. Regardless as mentioned it’s better to get your pass before you enter this trail as depending on the way you enter you can totally bypass the park entrance station. If you have a golden pass just ensure you have it on hand. The Sunsets where spectacular out here and well worth the truces hour trip in and out. Take your time and explore. There is an abundance of wildlife if you just slow down enough to see it. We are just posting up a video of our recent trek on YouTube @gladiatoroverland. Have fun and good luck. It’s a low to high moderate trail. We did it in a Jeep gladiator with an alucab canopy camper without incident.

The trail has had a lot of downed trees that have been cut but makes parts very tight. A lot of overgrowth, anything wider than a jeep will get scratched. There has been no real trail maintenance and is in pretty bad shape from the park to Point Sublime. Plan for an all-day trip with this.
