Overview

Departs from Needles Visitor Center in Canyonlands National Park.

A great trail if you are a newcomer to 4-wheeling. You get to experience driving rocky terrain, but with all the harder spots improved just a bit by the park service. The trail is extremely convenient, located immediately behind the Needles Visitor Center in Canyonlands National Park. Park entry fee required. The end of the route features a high, dramatic overlook of the Colorado River. You can take a short hike to Lower Jump and see a tall waterfall if water is flowing in Salt Creek.

Mostly easy, but with a few rocky ledges here and there to add some challenge. If you go slowly, the trail is doable in a stock, high clearance 4x4 SUV. There is a parking area at 5.2 miles if you want to walk the hardest part of the trail.
