Overview

Unpaved route to breathtaking Anticline Overlook.

This alternate backway to Anticline Overlook avoids pavement going in. In addition to a spectacular overlook, you’ll see Looking Glass Arch and some abandoned cave houses. On the way out, we’ve added a fun stop at Jailhouse Rock. ATVs and UTVs should transport in a ways before unloading, then try to stick to the many dirt roads that crisscross the area. You might also want to do Box Car Loop, #69, Kamikaze, #70, and Canyonlands Overlook, #71. BLM dry camping at Hatch Point and Wind Whistle Campgrounds (fee areas).

Most of the route is well maintained. Looking Glass Road may be rutted and muddy north of Waypoint 02, but is suitable for most 4x4 SUVs. Needles Overlook Road 133 is paved. CR 132 is a wide, dusty gravel road with intermittent washboard.

The second set of houses are now lived in so be careful when heading back there. We just did this drive over the weekend. We had a member of the private polygamist community follow us around in an older Chevy pickup. Perhaps ensuring that we weren’t up to no good.
