Overview

Explore remote lesser-known mining area.

Remote, lesser-known mining area between Rollinsville and Apex. Route loops back over more scenic Dakota Hill, with side trip to remarkably preserved shaft house. Many unmarked roads complicate route finding, so follow directions carefully. Great area for unlicensed vehicles. No parking at Waypoint 01. Drive in far enough to find wide spot to avoid blocking road. More parking at south end of trail at Waypoint 03 above town of Apex. If you continue down road after shaft house, be prepared to turn around if gate is locked. Open all year, weather permitting.

Trail Updates

7/11/2018

Submitted by Charles Wells

I drove this trail on July 10, 2018. This trail has become extremely narrow with tight brush and is very tippy in places. It is very likely you may get scratches in your paint rather than just brush marks. Also, some route markers have changed or are missing. Please consult the latest MVUM, although even that, in a few cases, did not agree with signs on the ground. Many unmarked or mismarked roads make route-finding very difficult in this area.
