Fun climb to 11,300 ft. ridge along Medicine Bow Mountains. Short 0.3-mile hike at end of road leads to gorgeous 360-degree view. This trail is in Colorado State Forest State Park and a small fee is required. Great campgrounds and fishing around North Michigan Creek Reservoir. Very popular ATV area. No gas in the immediate area. No seasonal gate closures.

The lake at Montgomery Pass has been drained. They are working on the dam. This makes for a rather unsightly first part of the trail but if you go to the top, you are well rewarded.

I re-drove this trail and noticed the KOA Campground at the start of the trail is now North Park Campground. Phone (970) 723-4310. Otherwise, the route hasn’t changed much.
