Overview

Trail climbs through meadows and aspen groves.

Beautiful drive in September when aspens are changing color. Great backcountry option to paved Wilkerson Pass. Trail twists and turns through meadows and aspen groves on the way to La Salle Pass. The pass is located at the junction of Badger Mountain Road 228. This side road does not allow unlicensed vehicles and upper half is private. Only lower portion of F.S. 228 is shown on MVUM. Follow all posted signs. East side of C.R. 31 has network of trails that connect to C.R. 77. Road 213 comes out just south of China Wall.

Heading west on 44, you cannot proceed past 44.2a; there is a sign that 44 is seasonally closed Jan 1 – July 31 for Species protection during nesting season. I went left / south on 44.2a and rejoined 44 at Clear Creek Road.

The turn off to La Salle pass (CR44) going north on CR31 is not well marked or marked at all. We were looking for a sign that said La Salle Pass and did not see one, there is a sign on CR31 southbound from Tarryall Road.
