Overview

A few small ledges on way to beautiful overlook.

A fun trip to a very high overlook of the Green River. This is the final leg (the easy portion) of the Easter Jeep Safari Hell Roaring Rim Route. You’ll go by Horsethief Campground near the start. It’s one of the larger BLM campgrounds with 56 fee sites. The campground is popular with mountain bikers because it’s a hub for many biking trails. Dispersed camping is allowed along road after the campground.

Trail Ratings Defined

A wide graded road until after Waypoint 03, where it narrows but remains easy. There’s a large difficult ledge close to the end of the trail at Wpt. 04. Walk the last quarter mile if you don’t feel confident going down and coming back up the ledge. (The author managed the ledge in his stock Jeep Wrangler.)

The rocky ledge at 12.1 miles, as described in the book just after Waypoint 04, has gotten quite difficult. I got down the ledge and back up in my stock Wrangler Sport, but it was challenging. Fortunately, you are just a 2/10 mile from a spectacular view at the end. You can avoid the difficult ledge by staying left at Waypoint 04, but the view at the end is not as good, plus you still have to walk some.
