Overview

Gorgeous winding trail between Marble and “Devil’s Punchbowl.”

Stunning scenery bordering the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. Abundant seasonal wildflowers, fall color, great hiking and mountain biking. Makes a convenient loop when combined with the west half of Devil’s Punchbowl, Trail #27. Loop route goes past one of Colorado’s most famous landmarks, the Crystal Mill. Open seasonally May 21-Nov. 22. Unlicensed vehicles can stage at the corner of Park St. and 3rd just south of the fire station.

This is one of my Colorado favorites. You can pay for a camp spot in “town” just past the mill and they give you unlimited firewood. The old stage coach cut is really a hoot. Do the full run to Crested Butte over Schofield pass. The first time I did this was in a completely stock wrangler and I really bashed in my gas tank crossing the creek just above the punch bowl. Have done it Since with 33s and 35s without any trouble. Lots of tight shelf road without many passing areas. Great history and scenery throughout.
