Trail Ratings Defined

Difficult. No obstacles, just a mix of good-size rocks, big tree roots and mud. Trail follows creek, so it is rarely dry. Narrow sections are more difficult when wet and slippery. Don’t hesitate to turn around if the slipperiness becomes dangerous. Stay on the trail and don’t cut corners. Steep climb just before the pass may intimidate inexperienced drivers.

Ran Napoleon Pass October 2,2022 in a Polaris XP 1000 crew Texas edition. From Tin Cup to the South. Trail past the Gold Cup mine was very difficult with several near tip-overs. Snow accumulation of 3-4” nearing the pass. At mile 4.2 stayed left because the downhill entry to the lower alternate route appeared to be at the limit of tilt for my vehicle. Nearly had a tip-over in about 100 yards. Very tippy. Be very careful in these two areas. Not recommended to ride this trail alone because these two areas.

Use caution on this trail as snow melts. An accident occurred on or about August 13, 2019, involving side by side. The vehicle slid off-trail in snow-covered section and rolled several times.
